What is In Mold Label (IML)?
IML is a manufacturing process that attaches a label attached to a plastic container simultaneously with molding.
It reduces the process of attaching the existing pressure sensitive label (PSL) and reduces the manufacturing time and cost loss because there is no use of adhesive. And it is environmentally friendly because of the restriction of use of adhesive.
In-mold labeling is not a form attached to the surface of the container, but it is embedded in the inside of the container. Therefore, the finished product has a soft, smooth surface and is not easily peeled off and does not cause curling.
IML has been growing steadily in North America and Europe recently. IML is increasing its market share as a new trend in the labeling market with its strong durability and beautiful appearance.

FILMAX in-mold labels are divided into two product groups depending on the molding method.

  • Injection molding
    Injection molding is a molding method commonly used in small containers with lids.
    Since the plastic container is mainly made of PP material, it is made of white OPP film that can be attached to PP container.
    There are orange peel type and non-orange peel type according to customer preference.
  • Blow molding
    : Blow molding is a molding method commonly used in bottles or large containers.
    Since the molded container is mainly made of PE material, one side of white OPP film is made of PE extruded laminated film
    so that it can be attached to PE container. There are orange peel type and non-orange peel type according to customer preference.

Features of FILMAX IML

IML production process

  • Blow molding
    Blow molding is a manufacturing method for molding containers like bottles. First, the label is placed on the inner wall of the open mold and molten parison is injected. When the mold is closed, high pressure air is injected into the parison and the molten plastic expands into the mold wall to form the mold. In this process, the plastic is attached to the label, then the cooled container is discharged and the process is restarted.

    process

    • 1. The label is placed on the front and back wall of the mold and it is fixed by the vacuum absorption of the mold wall.
    • 2. The molten parison is injected and the mold is closed.
    • 3. High pressure air is injected into the parison to inflate it. The expanded molten plastic is attached to the label.
    • 4. After cooling, the molded container is discharged.
    • 5. The process is restarted.

  • Injection Molding
    Injection molding is a manufacturing method for molding a container with a wide mouth like a cup. First, the label is placed inside the open mold. When the mold is closed, molten plastic polymer is injected into the mold. In this process, the injected molten plastic is attached to the label, then the cooled container is discharged and the process is restarted.
